What are Underground Rap Lyrics?
How can you differentiate underground rap lyrics from the lyrics of any other artists? Well, for one, undeniably, underground rap lyrics are raw. They come from within and speak directly from the soul. Usually, it deals with topics that try to open peoples’ eyes to the different wrong doings our society today tries to cover up. These rhymes frequently speak of poverty, untimely deaths, the government and its inability to aid its constituents, the ghetto life and the hopes and dreams of the forgotten.
These raps are the people’s cry for help and sadly, almost too often, they go unheard. This is the case because these raps are the ones you probably might not care to hear because instead of giving you an escape from everyday life, they actually reinforce the troubles we care to disregard in today’s community.
Compared to the High and Mighty lifestyle of the blinged out rappers we see on TV, underground artists depend more on their skills and street cred. No posse to take a bullet for them or rap girl to jiggle their butt. They do not have a throng of people wearing suits & ties to decide for them the best next move for their career and profit margin. All they have are their words and the will to survive.
Underground rap lyrics, when tastefully done do not stay underground for long as the story goes. Someone out there, who has got a name and a million bucks in the music industry, will discover that up and coming rapper, consequently turning his life upside down, hopefully for the better. That is how it usually goes, a big break and an underground rapper becomes world famous in just a wink of an eye. Underground rap may become main stream but it is not a bad thing in particular. Selling out is.
There are tons of famous rappers today that are still legit and underground in their own way. Just because they make the big bucks do not mean they no longer have principles. Underground rap lyrics will live on until there’s injustice in the world. If that’s the case, then I wish for it to end soon but we all know that is all bull. These underground rap lyrics give voice to the meek and until there are still tons of them that ask for help, for food and guidance, underground rap lyrics will live on as their legacy.
